As the running season is now upon us, with marathons coming up and just generally better (most of the time) weather for nice long runs, we have seen an increasingly amount of runners in the clinic! We thought we would highlight some of the main running injuries that we see and treat regularly.
Most Common Running Injuries:
Runners Knee (Patellofemoral pain syndrome)
Achilles Tendonitis
Shin Splints
Plantar Fasciitis
Illitibial Band Syndrome
Stress Fractures
Piriformis Syndrome
Calf and Hamstring Strains
Some of the most common causes for these injuries are:
– Progressing too quickly in mileage and speed
– Lack of stretching!
– Running on uneven surfaces
– Poorly fitted running trainers (improper type or size)
– Ignoring injury signs
– Running through an injury without treatment
In the next upcoming articles we will go into more detail about each injury and how to avoid these from happening!
