As a Bodyworks Edinburgh physiotherapist I am always asked the question, ?What is physiotherapy and how is it different from Sports Massage??
Physiotherapists and Sports Therapists both aim to heal the body and treat musculoskeletal issues however the major difference is a Physiotherapist is qualified to officially diagnose an issue and treat much more complex ailments. As physiotherapy is provided by Health Professionals (Physiotherapists), it is sometimes easier to get your private health care to cover the cost as Sports Massage is not always covered.
So What Is The Goal Of Physiotherapy?
As an Edinburgh physiotherapist, our primary goal is always to relieve pain and improve the function of the body. Once the root cause of the problem has been treated, we will provide you with the tools to help prevent it from reoccurring. This may be in the form of strengthening exercises and stretches or some postural adaptations.
Some conditions aren?t reversible though and in those situations we help manage your symptoms to give you the optimum health possible. Physiotherapy aims to always address the driving factor for your symptoms whether it is back ache or joint pain because relying on pain killers to mask the issue is not a solution.?
What Makes Bodyworks Edinburgh Physiotherapy Different?
At Bodyworks, our Physiotherapists are all fully trained , qualified and registered Health Professionals with HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council). Our main concern is always our patients health; we want to work with you to achieve your health goals and not just throw some exercises at you and leave you to it. We will be with you every step of the way from helping you learn them while in session at the clinic, giving providing you with a digital copy of your home care plan so you don?t forget how to do them to follow up appointments and emails to check how things are going.?
Physiotherapy is not cheap and we understand this, so we offer block treatments for those people who need more than one or two sessions to help you save a little money. We are proud to be a hands on clinic that approach things in a holistic manner ? looking at the whole picture and not just the symptoms. By having skilled and experienced Health Professionals and Therapists from a range of different backgrounds all under one roof, we can offer a multi-disciplinary approach and provide smooth transitions with in-house referrals.
So What Will My Physiotherapy Session Involve at Bodyworks?
Diagnosis ? the first step is to run through an in depth consultation and assessment in order to accurately diagnose your ailment and get to the root of the issue.
Manual Therapy ? as we are a hands on Edinburgh Physiotherapy clinic we strongly believe in doing what is best for you and not what is easiest for us. We will provide different types of manual therapy depending on what works best for your body for example, massage (soft tissue release), myofascial release, mobilisations, joint manipulations, muscle energy techniques or medical acupuncture to name a few.
Rehabilitation ? to get your body fully recovered and functioning in a way that will reduce the chances of the issue recurring, we will provide sports specific rehabilitation if you have a sporting injury, kinesiology taping, exercise and stretching prescription to take home and offer advice and education around the issue so that you develop the tools to recognise what causes the pain and how to prevent it.
